SHIP sets sail

A new client management system has been launched today for 1200 homelessness agencies across the country by the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW).

The Specialist Homelessness Information Platform (SHIP) is a secure web-based application developed and hosted by Infoxchange Australia.  It features a highly intuitive user interface allowing agencies to record client information including case notes, case plans and client goals. Agencies can also compile and extract data to help manage their agency, their clients and their clients’ needs.

SHIP has been developed to support agencies in reporting for the new Specialist Homelessness Services collection which was also launched today by the AIHW.

"Previously, homelessness was measured by the number of services provided to people experiencing homelessness or at risk of experiencing homelessness," says Geoff Neideck, AIHW Housing and Homelessness Group.

‘This new data collection will provide better information about people who are homeless, the pathways people take in and out of homelessness and the kinds of work homelessness agencies do.’

The initiative will support the Government’s homelessness strategy, which is to halve the rate of homelessness by 2020 and provide supported accommodation to all rough sleepers who seek it.
